THE SITUATION

More than 30,000 people are currently serving prison sentences for cannabis-related offenses. As medical and recreational cannabis use becomes legal in many states, it serves as a reminder of how unjust the system really is.

People are spending years in prison for activities now considered to be recreational or therapeutic, while state-legal dispensaries and related businesses are making billions of dollars in profits – despite the fact that marijuana continues to be federally illegal.

THE SOLUTION

MISSION [GREEN] is working to right a wrong. Specifically, the initiative is advocating for the release of individuals serving time for cannabis offenses and helping to create pathways to pardons or expungement.

To draw attention to and drive action around this important issue, the Mission Green Initiative has developed a proclamation for justice with support from Democratic and Republican leaders, as well as from prominent figures in the sports and entertainment industries.
